The way you interact with the Holy Spirit shapes your mind the same way your activity on YouTube shapes your algorithm. Every video you click on, every channel you subscribe to, and every clip you linger on teaches the platform what you want more of. Over time, your front page becomes a reflection of what you have consistently given your attention to. In the same way, what you consistently feed your spirit begins to shape your thoughts, desires, reactions, and perspective on life.
When you spend time in prayer, worship, Scripture, and quiet moments listening for God, you begin to notice different things. Peace becomes easier to recognize. Conviction becomes clearer. Compassion grows stronger. The Holy Spirit starts redirecting your attention away from bitterness, fear, and distraction, and toward truth, wisdom, and purpose. Just like an algorithm learns your patterns, your heart becomes trained by whatever you repeatedly engage with.
Remember the old saying “Energy goes where attention flows.” The things you focus on, whether positive or negative, will grow and dictate how you feel. There’s real science behind that. When you focus on something intensely, the nerves in your brainstem (The Reticular Activating System) start scanning your environment to bring you more information about it. And your brain physically rewires itself based on the thoughts and behaviors you repeatedly engage in.
Letting the Holy Spirit guide you has this same effect! It’s part of why everything in your life seems to get so much better when you really choose to follow God’s word! It’s neat! 🙂
